ONCE AGAIN it was the time of the year when anglers turned up from Louth, Hull, Hornsea, Pocklington, York and Bridlington to fish the memorial match in memory of Pete Barker.

30 anglers drew their pegs for a six-hour match in mixed conditions with singles, pairs and triples awards to be won. At the weigh in it was looking like a very close run result and when the figures were totalled the result was as follows; First place went to Paul Waites in peg 4 with 62lb 9 oz, closely followed by Keith Lamming in peg 38 with 60lb 10oz. Third place went to Carl Jewitt in peg 16 with 58lb 11oz.

The pairs result went in favour of Alan Darcy in peg 10 along with Mike Bassett in peg 20 with a winning score of 76lb 11oz. Finally, the triples match was won by Gary Fairfield in peg 5, Marc Gabriel in peg 7 and Pete Wardill in peg 34 with a combined weight of 83lb 1oz.

Section winners to also receive a share of the prizes were – D Pratt, D Richie, R Teale, J Suter and C Fisher. The biggest fish of the day award went to Chris Fisher with a carp at 13lb 11oz.

The day was not just about fishing but also raising funds for various charities and with the help of Kirsty, Aimee and Sammi and kind donations from Dave Pratt and Nic Burton of East Coast Tackle, the anglers raised the sum of £350.

The anglers then tucked into Sandra’s famous pie and peas, received their raffle prizes and spent a few moments remembering ‘Big Pete’ who was a gentle giant and a friend to all who knew him.

Keith thanked all concerned with a special mention to Ron and Mike for preparing the ponds and he also mentioned that he looked forward to seeing everyone again next year.
