Amazing prize could be

yours for a tenner!

RECENTLY, our Captain’s Challenge came from Darrell Slingsby and Chris Reed, writes Stretton Wright.

Now Dave and I played quite nicely but found ourselves three down after nine. Darrell had 20 points and Chris had 21 in the competition though for the first nine holes. We battled hard on the back-nine but in the end, we lost 4&2 but did manage to half the back-nine.
On a more positive note, we did have seven bits. Yet again though giving 9/10 handicap off yellow tees proved our undoing. Very well played to both Darrell and Chris though on playing really well and many thanks for your generous donation to the Captains Charity.

Now the time is running out for your chance to win the amazing prize on offer that David Blanchard has put together for this year’s Gents Captain. Tickets are available in the shop, behind the bar or see David in person.

You may have seen posters advertising my prize that I’m currently selling tickets for, if you haven’t seen them, the prize is:

• Three-night stay at Vale do Lobo Golf Resort, Algarve

• Two-bedroom apartment for four people

• Three x green fees per player (choose from two golf courses: Royal and Ocean)

• Buggies included

• Four x Free Club Hire (TaylorMade Golf Clubs)
The Winner will be drawn on the Captain’s weekend - Sunday, July 7 - All this for just £10 per ticket entry which all goes to raising money for the club. Thank you to those that have bought tickets already.
The Juniors took part in their second GolfSixes fixture at Hainsworth Park looking for a repeat of their victory at Cottingham. The team of Esme Brauer, Arron Williams, Oliver Myers, Jacob Greenwood, Josh Cook-Walton and Harrison Greenwood performed admirably to combine for 95 points. The stand-out pair were Oliver Myers and Jacob Greenwood with 36 points meant that we finished in fourth place for the event, but we still keep our lead at the top.
Our next fixture is here at Hornsea on Saturday, June 8, from 2pm...it would be great to see some members supporting the Juniors.

Another month has passed with limited rainfall. As I write this report, less than an inch (23.5mm) of rain had fallen in May. Consequently, the irrigation has been working regularly with only one or two troublesome sprinklers giving us a few headaches.

However, growth has been sufficient to keep us busy mowing all areas of the course.
