Humbleton suffer heavy defeat on the road

Humbleton CC 76 all out

Brandesburton CC 77-1

VISITING Brandesburton CC last Saturday, the Humbleton first eleven were given first use of an excellent batting track and were soon in deep trouble.

With only skipper Adam Dewson offering any real resistance with 26, Chris Stubbs (10) and Andy Johnson (9) just managed to beat extras as a much-weakened side succumbed to a meagre total of 76 all out.

For the home side, Nishadh Wijesinghe returned with fine bowling figures of 3-11 off three overs, while Muralidhar Reddy Billa also picked up three wickets, finishing with 3-21 from four overs, with Henry Brown (2-25) Stuart Robinson (1-9) and Craig Ford (1-0) the other wicket takers.
Sam Nicholson removed Brandesburton opener Paul Cook for a duck with the second ball of the innings but what little hope this gave Humbleton was soon quashed as an unbeaten 77-run partnership between Kevin Atkinson and Wijesinghe saw the hosts home for a simple ninewicket victory after just 11.1 overs.

Even with four key players missing there could be little excuse for the performance as a lack of application saw Humbleton well beaten.

With Newport II conceding their match to the second eleven, a miserable weekend was had by all.

This week sees the first eleven travel to meet Welton II, who are currently joint top of the Y&DSCL Division Holderness 3 table with Brandesburton, looking to restore some pride whilst the second eleven entertain Bransholme and Kingswood in the Y&DSCL Conference Division One.
