South Holderness Cup

THE 2018/19 South Holderness Cup is at the semi-final stage, with AFC Bilton set to have played holders Hedon Rangers last night and Roos facing Hedon Rangers Reserves at Patrington this evening (6.30pm).

Roos reached the semi-finals courtesy of surprise win over Easington United in the quarterfinals. Trailing to an early Nathan Verity goal, the Roosters hit back in the second half to win 3-1 thanks to goals from Liam Murrey, Lucas Sneddon and Jack Bristow.

Their opponents, Hedon Reserves edged past Hedon Rangers Academy at Eastside on the same night. Kieron Sage met a Dan Shearer corner to give the Academy a first half lead but Ash Whiteley levelled matters on 70 minutes and Alec Tate got a late winner for the Reserves in what was described as a “very even game”.

In the top half of the draw, Hedon Rangers’ first team followed up their win over Souths in the preliminary round with a 5-2 victory over Hedon Rangers Thirds at Holderness Academy last Wednesday. Dan Clancy bagged a brace for the holders, with Andy Harrison, Declan Nevitt and Tom Brugge also on target. Jack Gardner (“with a belter”) and Danny Barr replied.
Their opponents in the semi-final, AFC Bilton earned their place thanks to a 5-0 win over Window Doctor. Josh Buchan (2), Alex Lee, Aaron McIver and Sam Dawson were on target for the competition newcomers, although it was well into the second half before the game was finally decided. The final will be played at Patrington next Friday, May 17 (6.30pm).

Amy’s Bar & Kitchen’s sponsorship and provision of post-match hospitality for the Final is new for 2019, alongside the choice of charity to which the proceeds of the competition will go. This year’s proceeds will go to the Alzheimer’s Society.
