Teacher’s book merges

mystery crime and myth

    By Nicola Watson

A WOMAN who grew up in Holderness is celebrating the publication of her first book.

Sarah Coley’s hobby of writing has evolved into her becoming a published author following the release of her first novel ‘Rogardium, The Emerald Throne.’

Mrs Coley began gathering ideas for her first book three years ago and discovered a love of writing.

Originally from Easington, the new author attended Withernsea High School and went on to Hull University to study Music Performance. After spending a number of years teaching in Sheffield, Mrs Coley moved to Lincolnshire. When she became a mum, she put pen to paper on an evening purely as a hobby, but on completion of her novel decided to enquire about publishing.
The book tells the story of Private Investigator Eleanor Smith, who alongside her colleague Owen Wilson, is thrown into her first murder case. During their investigations, they are transported to a parallel universe full of mythical creatures, magic and Arthurian legend. She is tasked with finding Prince Elian of the land Rogardium, who is being held by the dreaded Lord Balor, and ultimately saving Rogardium itself.

Mrs Coley said: “I never expected this to be more than a hobby. When I’d completed the book I was really pleased with it and thought it would be good if in years to come my children could see what I had done so I enquired about self publishing. Amazon asked me whether I would consider publishing with them and I was a bit overwhelmed as I didn’t think I’d be able to. It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster getting it onto paper and to the point people are able to buy it in paperback or e-book and give their opinions. Being a new author, I am open to reviews and opinions. There are more books in the pipeline. I am very humbled and grateful to everybody who has helped me as I was writing it and getting it published. I would say to anyone who has an idea for a book or wants to write to go for it, life is too short. Try it out on your friends and family, get it proofread and get it out there.”

Rogardium, The Emerald Throne is the first book in the Rogardium Chronicles series and is available from Amazon in paperback or as an e-book.
